Every year Miami Spice rolls around, and every year I make a Miami Spice bucket list. This year, I may have gotten a little ambitious with 12 new restaurants to try and about 16 to revisit.
Can you tell food is my life?
And because there is still some time left to fine dine on a dime, I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite dishes from the restaurants I’ve already gotten around to visiting—this list may grow (it’s not over til it’s over, if you know what I mean).
So far, I have LOVED the selections for the following ( I’ll include some of my favorite items for each):
Toro Toro: The smoke lamb tartar was to die for– a MUST. Also, try the Trout for main course and El Havanito for dessert.
Byblos: Please do yourself a favor and get the upcharge for the Black truffle pide, you’ll thank me later. I also really loved the tomato and cucumber salad. The short rib kebab was EVERYTHING and the branzino didn’t stay behind. Barely had room for dessert, but I’d say go for the chocolate and hazelnut one.
Azabu: One of the best authentic Japanese places in Miami hands down. Start with the Himachi Jalapeño. Then, the Salmon Yuan Yaki or I highly recommend the 4 kind sashimi . And, of course, their delicious flourless chocolate cake.
Estiatorio Milos: I was REALLY impressed by this place. Wow, just wow. Easily one of my favorite Greek/Mediterranean places EVER. Salmon tartare, a no brainer. Dorado Royale: YES, PLEASE!!! And all of the desserts or any selection really is amazing. If you want to splurge, add the Milos’ Special: OMG.
Chef Adrienne’s Vineyard: This woman never ceases to amaze me. Start with the crab cakes, definitely go for the Salmon or the short rib, and finish with the Nutella bread pudding… if you can.
Café Catula: Another spot that pleasantly surprised me, starting with their yummy sangria by the pitcher. Here we start with the crab cakes again… I really love crab cakes. Then, go for the Sunset Snapper, it’s amazing. Third course? Tres guayaba. Let me know how it goes.
Finally, Café La Trova: this little Cuban spot has been on my to-do list for quite a while. And it was so good, I have been there twice in the last three weeks. Choose the mojito criollo and the spinach and feta croquetas. For your entrée go for the banana leaf steamed local catch that comes with yummy coconut sticky rice. For dessert try the Flan de Mama. Outside of spice, I LOVED the ceviche, so give it a shot.
I hope you enjoy my suggestions. I am still looking forward to getting out to a few more. On my to do list (with spectacular menus) are Prime Fish, La Petit Maison, The Jim and Neesie, Boulud Sud, and Swan.
Some all time favorites that I am hoping to go back to are Seaspice, Zuma, Komodo, Mignionette, The Bazaar, Bagatelle, and La Mar.
Chef Adrienne’s in a must! I loved the white chocolate tres leches. Bazaar by José Andrés is always a good choice too.
