Imagine a place where you could go with your family (young, old and furry alike), where you can have a beer AND plant a tree, and where you can eat great food while listening to good music.
Sounds great, huh?
Well, you don’t have to imagine it because it’s already here, and in the very heart of Wynwood.
Last Saturday, I attended the sneak preview of GROwynwood, and it did not disappoint.
I was welcomed by an outdoor area filled with repurposed containers and large planters that double as bleacher-like seating. And to welcome you, a large bar mainly serving the refreshing (and eco-conscious) Patagonia beer, a company which plants a tree for every case they sell in order to minimize their carbon footprint.
With our one-year-old (Achilles) in tow, we made our way past the bar and into the large patio area where the band Brothers of Others was rocking out. I highly recommend you follow them, by the way; they were amazing. Achilles particularly loved dancing all over the place while everyone cheered them on. It was so nice being able to go out with my kid without having to worry that people would be annoyed–everyone seemed to be ok with him being there.
We then grabbed a beer and went out back to the food trucks. There was a variety of choices available but one caught my eye: Tumbao Buns. My inner (and outer) fat girl is all about Latin-Asian fusions, and she never fails me. We had the Tumbao sampler and the chicken fried rice. EVERYTHING was phenomenal. Literally, to die for, and I am pretty sure every single thing on the menu is bomb, just saying.
After our food coma, we went back to listen to the band for a while and then decided to go plant a succulent in one of the planters. Achilles really loved the gardening bit and so did his momma.
All in all, I highly recommend GROwynwood for everyone. I went with a 1 year-old and an 84 year old and both of them enjoyed it. It really is a cute place to spend a couple of hours on the weekend with good food, drinks and music. I will definitely go back!
