Having a solid support system is so important for women, especially mothers. Women who are judgement free, who can listen and offer advice when needed, and who can understand that each personâs situation is unique are pretty much priceless.
I am blessed to have a vast network of these type of women…and even with that, I have felt alone and under distress many times in my short journey of motherhood.
The other day, I was watching Bad Momâs Christmas with some of my girls (I recommend it because itâs both hilarious and REAL), and I kept thinking to myself: Thank God I have been a part of a âbad momâs clubâ long before I became a mom.
I have been an honorary member of my sisterâs âdesperate mommy clubâ (thatâs not really what she calls it, it was my nickname for it đ€Ł) for years, since I have always had friends who are a little older than I am and most of them have kids. We meet up at least once a week and drink wine over stories of our childless days and our kids and our husbands…itâs kind of like a bunch of Kristen Bellâs Momsplaininâ together. And it is such a relief to know that other people go through the same crap that we do in some way or another.
The feelings, the hormones, the murderous thoughts towards our husbands, the stress about the kids, the yearning for freedom…all of it. IT IS NORMAL.
I donât think youâd qualify as human without at least two of those feelings. So we sit there and plan outings we often don’t have the energy or the sitters for, with outfits that have been sitting in our closets waiting for a better occasion, all in our comfy gym clothes that only witness the action of raising our glasses to our lips while screaming at the kids not to kill each other.
And to be quite honest, it is ALWAYS a great time.
I wouldnât know what to do without my friends and family. They are my village…and some day we will have those trips and outings…and they will be just like the old days only better because we will now appreciate them that much more.
Donât have this group just yet? Donât worry⊠Iâm here for you complete with all my insanity that will make you feel more boring than Sandy in Grease …so just grab a glass of wine and join me!
